The Seattle center website really didn’t say much about this event, the official primary reason for this celebration is to celebrate and commemorate the event where Japan’s government gift of a thousand Cherry trees to Seattle through Prime Minister Takeo Miki.
The main functions of the event today however is to celebrate the Japanese culture in Seattle, to introduce the culture to those who are not very familiar with it, and to reconnect descendents of the culture in the area. So basically, it is an event for old friends to meet and catchup, new friends to explore and children to learn and have fun.
If you are coming here for the cherry blossom, you will be disappointed, all the blossoms are gone by now, except for some spring flowers. So it’s not that there are no more flowers to see there, just no more cherry blossoms. I know I know, my photo for this blog is misleading as well, but I have not been to the festival before, so I have no photo of the event yet. And after all, it is call the Cherry Blossom Festival, so nothing wrong with that picture :)
So come here instead for the arts, crafts, cultural activities, performances and food!! There will be a lot of information and cultural activities about the Japanese culture here. There’s martial art presentation, traditional songs and dances and the famous Taiko drum performances. There will be a lot of sightings of the beautiful Japanese traditional cloths and wears as well, those will always promise to be spectacular. If you are bringing kids, your kids will love it here, there will be so many things for them to see and so many things for them to do, they won’t get board, will almost guaranteed to spend all of their energy, and will have a wonderful good night sleep.
I plan to go there my self to take some photos of the event, maybe I will see you there :)
Why Go: Foods, musics, cultural activities, Taiko drum performance, traditional Japanese costumes, lot’s of things to do for your children.
Why Not To Go: Cherry blossoms – there’s none.
