This is where we stay when we are at Long Beach, WA. It’s a small hotel, nothing much to brag about but it excel in the important aspect where customer really cares about – cleanliness and customer service.
Their price is somewhat affordable, I say somewhat because their room is not very big and very barebone. For the price range, I expect bigger room and more amenities. Although the hotel is clean and organize, which is important. The hotel has no hot tub and no exercise room. They do not provide continental breakfast as well.
The room is not very big, it has no outstanding design, and the way they organize the room is a bit weird, wasting a lot of space. It is a very simple room, so simple that it is very boring . . . . No microwave, no refrigerator, no coffee maker. They do have free wifi in the room and a DVD player.
Two things that bug me at my stay:
1. The curtain can hardly cover their windows, so I felt my privacy was compromise, especially my room was on street level.
2. The flat screen tv is nice, but it is so small and so far from the bed I can’t hard to see the picture nor hear the sound, I have to turn up the volume a lot to reach comfortable hearing zone. I do not feel like turning up the volume so much after 10pm.
They could have spent more time on making the room look nice and cozy. Their room is actually not too small, but it feel crowded, this is due to poor design and organization of the room. It will take some creative designing and decorating to fully utilize the limited space and make the room more welcome for the customer.
The big plus for them is they are pet friendly. All hotel and motel should be pet friendly in my opinion because I have a small dog myself. The other big plus is they adapt the environmental friendly practice into their day to day operation. All the products used in the hotel are environmental friendly.
From their website and promotional materials, it feels like they are trying to make the hotel hip, upscale and mainstream, but they are definitely very far from it. They really are more functional than anything else. By definition, they should be call a motel, not a hotel. There is a little bit of let down seeing the actual hotel for the first time after I have painted a picture of them in my mind based on their website and publication. The stay is comfortable, I will give them that, and as basic and as bare as they are, Adrift is still maybe the best hotel in town.
You are greeted with a self serving coffee bar at the lobby. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate and hot water are available all the time. Which is a very nice gesture. Although my room is simply too far from the lobby to make it practical, especially in bad weather.
Everybody get a free bike rental at Adrift, which is another nice gesture that they do. Now this is important, why? Because they have miles and miles of long beach that you can ride your bike on. In good weather, you can cruise along the town, which we were not able to do this time due to the storm.
Another nice gesture they do is they give every customer a bag of coffee beans and an Adrift coffee mug. The only problem with this is there’s no grinder or coffee maker in the room . . . but it is indeed a nice gesture. I try the coffee at home, they are not bad. They do have snacks and drinks available 24-hour just in case you have the need for a late night snacks late into the night.
They have tons of board games and a lot of DVDs. This way you will at least have something to do when you are bored in your room, which can happen when you are completely trap by heavy storm and can’t go anywhere.

As you can see, we went on a really bad week, raining non stop.
Over all, it is an alright hotel to stay in. By function, it is more of a motel than a hotel. If they call themself a motel I would have given them more praise. The free bike rental, free gift, pet friendly and environmental friendly are all good gesture and good concept, but as an accommodation provider, if your rooms are so plain and bare, all those won’t matter, it is the first look that they remember, it is the comfort and good rest that will get them to go back.
At the end of the day, it is clean and the customer service are friendly, that count for a lot. Will I go back to stay at Adrift? You bet, mainly because they are still the best hotel in town, and next time, I will come back with an accurate expectation.

To add, Adrift has a restaurant on the top floor called Pickled Fish. It has a modern design and tasty cocktail food. The most important, breath taking ocean view. Small plates and cocktail work well for my appetite. BTW, many popular restaurants in Seattle are going with this trend. However, I do get a comment from the local that they don’t serve “real food”. LOL… Picked Fish also invites artist to perform at their restaurant, and they also rent out the entire restaurant for private events.
