Long Beach In The Rain Part 2 – Long Beach, WA

I will start part 2 of the Long Beach photowalk series with another photo of the very barren landscape. But I think whenever something get to an extreme point, it became beautiful, if you can see it. For me, I really do find beauty in such landscape, it engage me deeply.
Even though the place is really vast and barren, there are however sign of life here, we are after all not in mars. The tire tracks on the beach prove that this beach is visited frequently.
The sand on the beach at Long Beach are very compact, that means you can actually drive on it. No road, no lane, no stop sign, no traffic light, the beach is your road. There are however speed limit though, so make sure you are not speeding. I have to admit, It’s hard to watch your speed when there are seemingly no boundaries around.
Imagine driving besides the ocean, endless water on one side and endless beach in front. You can drive along, leave your mark on the sand, stop whenever you find a good spot, not that there are any bad spot at the beach, get out of the car, or not, climb to the roof of the car (you can sit on the beach too, spare the climbing and your car), and just sit there and watch the ocean. Well while you are at it, you might as well eat a sandwich, too.
It is the most calming and relaxing experience you will ever had, I guarantee it! Well, I am sure for some, this experience could easily be confuse with boringness … But I am optimistic in nature, I know you will enjoy it as much as I do.
It feels forever to drive the whole length of the beach, it is indeed as it’s name, long beach, no kidding. And because the scenery doesn’t really change, going from one point to another feel almost static, feels like you have been driving on the same spot for a very long time, the strange thing is, you are not complaining.
So when you have a chance to visit Long Beach, you have got to try driving on the beach, the freedom and romance (especially when your love one is with you) you will experience is amazing!
Now, what’s more fun than driving on the beach? Of course it is biking on the beach, dah …
Seriously, it was really fun, we left plenty of marks on the sand with the bikes from the hotel. Paddling on sand is a bit hard and almost impossible at some soft spot, but it sure is very fun! You have to try it, letting the ocean breeze brush though your face is while you are on the bike is the most amazing feeling in the world.
Now the bike it self is nothing to write home about, very simple, no hand break (paddle break), not going to break any record kind of bike. The paddle break took me sometime to get use to. I really do not feel safe at first, I thought I am going to fall face down onto the beach, and eat a mouth full of sand. It will give me a chance for some comedic facial expression moments, but it didn’t happen, I was safely planted on the bike the whole time, a bit disappointing really …
One of the bike is mind and the other is my wife, well technically it’s the hotel’s bikes. Doesn’t these two bikes look so sweet together? They were made for each other. Ahem, off topic … besides that, we really have fun biking on the beach, good time, real good time.
Other than cars, bikes, of course there’s the most frequent visitor to all of the Pacific Northwest beaches, the seagulls. Only if they get frequent flyer miles …. it’s not funny, I know, can’t blame me for trying though …..
And lastly, we have … humans … there are actually people on the beach in this temperature (it’s kinda cold) and this hour. Although I think I can count them all with all my fingers, let’s see, one … two … three … four …
If you are not into driving, biking or horse riding the beach, you can always enjoy the beach the old fashion way, walk it.
Walking on the beach is very easy, mostly comfortable and effortless mainly because the sand is compact. Compact sand makes walking a lot more enjoyable compare to soft sand. I can walk for miles on this beach.
As usual, the person that always have the most fun despite of weather and temperature are the kids, they make the rigid beach lively :)
It’s getting darker and darker, this is actually the last light of the day, and you can clearly see the sign of a brewing storm. But since this is the Pacific Northwest, glorious sunsets are very rare, this is normally what we get, this is our sunset. Don’t get me wrong, I like it, I think it is romantic :)
After today, it is suppose to rain non-stop, I really hope I can get a break in between to photo the lighthouse and photo the beach again. We shall see.
This is it for part 2 folks, stay tune for part 3 :)
